The Gingerdead Man

This 2005 horror film is an American production with companies Talos Entertainment, Full Moon Entertainment and Shoot Productions. Directed by Charles Band and starring Gary Busey, Robin Sydney and Ryan Locke.

The story is about an evil gingerbread man who likes killing and wrecking havoc. It's set in a bakery where an employee, a young woman with a traumatic past, finds something horrible in the oven. A gingerbread man took on a life of its own and is possessed by the angry spirit of a dead murderer. Witchcraft was used in a mysterious box.

While there are some fairytale aspects to this film, it's filled with gruesome silliness. The small gingerbread man is just a nasty piece of work really but comes out with funny morbid jokes. Expect to see awful 2000's fashions on here! Expecting a bit more, especially as this was made by Full Moon Entertainment and starring Gary Busey, it seemed to taste milky than spicy. I rate this an oat meal worthy 4/10.

Spectre (1977)

This is a  horror film made for tv and was directed by Clive Donner. The stars include Robert Culp, Gig Young and John Hurt.

A criminologist and a doctor both investigate a strange mystery, based on letters sent by a woman, who claims that her brother is dabbling in the occult. They encounter a sinister entity, and are taken on a dangerous journey to a house that was once an abbey. The residents are the two brothers and a sister, who had first contacted the criminologist. The place itself is filled with magical paintings, secrets and a curious ancient relic.

The two main leading characters were loosely based on Sherlock Holmes and Dr Watson. Often films made about the occult are associated with curses and supernatural events. The actor Gig Young who played the doctor, met actress Kim Schmidt during the filming of "Spectre" and they would soon marry but tragedy happened, when Young murdered her and then killed himself afterwards.

This film had a very creepy vibe and a good mystery. I rate this 9/10.

Castle of Blood

This film is also called "Danza Macabre" and is a gothic horror Italian 1964 film directed by Antonio Margheriti and Sergio Corbucci. The stars includes Barbara Steele, Georges Riviere and Margrete Robshame.

In a Victorian London pub, Edger Allan Poe is talking to journalist Alan Foster, when he agrees to visit an abandoned castle to a bet. Now most of this film takes place is an eerie shadowy castle filled with past relics, cobwebs, dust and stories of ghosts. It was where a couple of newlyweds on their honeymoon stayed but were never seen again so this was a mystery.

Barbara Steel originally refused to appear in this because of a topless scene so they used a body double wearing a wig. Also her name doesn't appear in the opening credits in the original version. Another name of this movie is "Castle of Terror", "Coffin of Terror" and "Long Night of Terror". A slow but creepy atmospheric film that should be watched with the lights on! I rate this dark gem a score of 8/10.

From a Whisper to a Scream

This is a 1987 horror anthology film directed by Jeff Burr and the stars includes Vincent Price, Clu Gulager and Martine Beswick.

After a woman is executed for a notorious crime, her uncle is visited by a journalist. It's set in a library where we're taken to four small stories to link the film. The first story is about a shop assistant's obsession with his boss,  a beautiful woman who spurns him. The second story is about the dangers of immortality when a violent man is saved by a witch doctor. The third story about a tragic love story of sorts, of a man cursed and under control of a dangerous woman. The fourth story is about American civil war soldiers who end up in a refuge of nightmare kids.

This was made in an actual historic building dating back to the Civil War period and it was reported strange things happened. It was made in 1985 but wasn't released until 1987. The film is based in the town of Oldfield, which is a fictional place. Perhaps too violent and gruesome, with black hearted humour as well as nudity. The make-up is horrible! I rate this a grotesque 4/10.
