Mythica: A Quest for Heroes

This is a 2014 fantasy called Mythica: A Quest for Heroes, part of a Mythica series of films. This one, Mythica: A Quest for Heroes is the first. It was directed by Anne K. Black, and stars Kevin Sorbo, Melanie Stone, Adam Johnson and Robert Jayne. It begins when a village is raided by orcs and an ogre, and a priestess promises to hide a sacred stone. Later we start in another village with a witch that tries conjuring up a magic brew and she's also a slave who gets beaten. She sees an opportunity of escaping her brutal life when a priestess visits and asks for help in finding her missing sister. A group of characters help the priestess and all is difficult with so many orcs and monstrous beasts around. I found this an adventure to watch.
I rate it a 8/10
An observation: The barman is scarier than the orcs!

The Magic Sword

"The Magic Sword" is a 1962 fantasy film based loosely on the legend of St George and the dragon. It was directed by Bert I. Gordon and starred Basil Rathbone, Estelle Winwood, Anne Helm and Gary Lockwood.
A young man named George lives with his foster mother Sybil who's an immortal sorceress. She showed him gifts that he would have to wait until his birthday. The gifts are so what he needs to rescue a princess that he ends up taking them after locking away Sybil. Then George is faced with dangers and challenges. Meanwhile, the princess was forced to watch two other girls being killed by the ferocious dragon. This is such a fun film with a lot of magical surprises.
I rate this film a 7/10.

Mary and the Witch's Flower

This is a Japanese 20017 animation called Mary and the Witch's Flower by Studio Ponoc, directed by Hiromasa Yonebayashi. It's based on the book "The Little Broomstick" by Mary Stewart.
Mary Smith moves into a new home with her great-aunt because her parents are still busy at work or something and don't appear. Mary begins to explore, meets local kittens and a paper boy called Peter. She finds strange blue flowers called fly-by-night, and picks some to take home. The flowers are very potent and they mark her hand, which causes her to become part of another dimension with magic and a broomstick that behaves like a pet. She's invited to join a strange college in the clouds, run by dubious Madam Mumblechock and Doctor Dee.
The film itself is eye candy. The story is a modern fairytale and a delight for the inner child. I rate this remarkable anime a strong 8/10.
The most scariest part: Parts of it here and there is quite eerie.

Thor and the Amazon Women

My film reviews continues for the harvest. I'm on a roll seeking obscure films at the present, definitely. This film made in 1963 is Thor and the Amazon Women and also called Gladiator Women. Directed by Antonio Leonviola, and starring Susy Andersen, Joe Robinson, Harry Baird and Janine Hendy. The film is set in ancient times, probably 3rd millennium BC.
There is a society ruled by women called Amazons but they're cruel and ruthless. They force captured women to fight to the death, and force men into slave labour. Among the protagonists are beefcakes Thor and Ubaratutu, the blonde starlet Tamara and her brother, a girl, an old man and a monkey. The antagonists include all of the Amazons and their queen.
The script is awful and sometimes funny when it wasn't supposed to be. Overall, the film leaves a bitter taste in the mouth.
