Bananas are scary

Did you know that bananas are really quite scary?
Besides the feeling of disappointment you get after you've peeled one to find it's heavily bruised and gross looking, there are even more strange and creepy facts about them.

Bananas are radioactive.
The bananas we have today are the survivors of the Panama disease that wiped out most banana species during the 1950's.
The bananas we eat today are the Cavendish bananas that come from the 19th Century. It's the last surviving banana although it's a worrying fact even this fruit may end up extinct if the disease returns with a new strain.
Bananas are berries.
Insects and bees especially go berserk on bananas.
Spider eggs have been found inside bananas.
There was the Banana Massacre of 1928 involving plantation workers in Columbia.
A mass murderer appeared on a game show in 1978 and described himself as a banana.
Nang Tani is a female ghost or a fairy who haunts banana trees in SE Asia.

As a small child, I was scared of the rhyme:
"Bananas in pyjamas
Are coming down the stairs.
Bananas in pyjamas
are chasing teddy bears
'cos on Tuesdays they're trying to catch them unawares".
