Dungeons and Dragons: Wrath of the Dragon God

This is the second of the "Dungeons and Dragons" trilogy of fantasy films. Made in 2005, directed by Gerry Lively and starring Bruce Payne, Mark Dymond and Clemency Burton-Hill.

One hundred years after the end of the story in the first film, Damador is awakened from the dead, and he obtains a magical sphere named the Orb of Faluzure. With that he could become powerful and bring down civilisation once and for all. Meanwhile a mountain is disturbed by the sleeping black dragon, threatening the lives of everyone in the nearby city. A group of people are selected to go on a mission to locate the artifacts to stop evil.

There's a lot of references to the game in this film but non-players wouldn't notice it. The ancient writing used come from zodiac signs and Futhark runes that are found in a game "Runequest". The individuals sent out on a quest includes Lord Berek of the Kings' Guards, Ormaline the elf wizard, Nim the rogue, Dorian the cleric, and Lux a barbarian woman. There are more monsters and other races in this but doesn't have the mega fantastic city of the first film, in fact it looks smaller. It's got magic and comical elements too but intrigue, tension and brilliant storyline twists. The ultimate dragon is frightening and awesome.

I give this a whopping 9/10
