Perseus the Invincible (1963)

Perseus the Invincible, also called Perseus Against the Monsters, Medusa Against the Son of Hercules and Perseo l'invincibile is a fantasy action from 1963. It's an Italian made film directed by Alberto de Martino, and starring Richard Harrison, Anna Ranalli, Antonio Molino Rojo and Roberto Camardiel.
There's an army of statues that were once warriors turned to stone by the horrific Medusa creature. It's not far from the lake sided dragon who eats people, preventing Perseus from avenging the death of his father against a hostile neighbouring city ruled by a cold king and his vicious son. The film is mostly action packed with battle scenes, and not so much fantasy lore. The romance between Perseus and Andromeda is strong here. It was a surprise to know that in this movie, the character of Andromeda is a tough girl with skills in archery.
This film is basically a gem classic but unfortunately it isn't well known.
I rate this a 7/10.

Beauty and the Beast (2009)

Beauty and the Beast is a 2009 film directed by David Lister. It stars Estella Warren, Victor Parascos, Vanessa Gray and Peter Cook. There are so many films made called "Beauty and the Beast" that instead of confusing them all, I add dates of the years when they were made. This one is the most goriest Beauty and the Beast I've ever watched out of the others. Apart from other movies of the same name, this one is a darker fairy tale bordering on horror. There is blood and gore, violence and an evil sorceress. There are two beasts, a good one and an evil one. Beauty comes in the form of Belle who is tougher than the Disney made version. I found this pleasant and fun, as it's low key and low budget, although has its moments. I personally find that in recent years low budget films are better than anything bigger coming out from Hollywood lately. This film is not following the traditional version and it's actually based on the story "Beauty and the Beast "by Gabrielle-Suzanne Barbot de Villeneuve.
I rate this a 7/10.

Captain Kronos - Vampire Hunter

This is a 1974 horror film by Hammer Productions. It was directed by Brian Clemens and stars Horst Jansen, Caroline Munro and John Carson. This is a weird horror film with a different take on vampires. Instead of sucking blood, the vampire drains youth to keep young and alive. The vampire hunters are swashbuckling soldier Kronos with his hunchback friend Grost, arrive at a village after getting news about mysterious deaths. They meet a girl in the stocks who was being punished for dancing on Sunday. She's freed by Kronos and then tags along with them to help hunt this killer.
Hammer horrors always provide this archaic setting with eerie atmosphere and a sense of danger. The film is enjoyable, gross and charming altogether.
I give this a 6/10

Question #1 for "A Song of Ice and Fire"

In Game of Thrones (novels) why did Lysa Arynn ever want a weirwood tree up in her mountain top castle? The weirwoods are part of the old gods but Lysa is a follower of the Seven. She wanted a godswood in the high garden near the clouds, but no trees ever managed to grow. Why would a southern woman of the Riverlands be interested in growing a weirwood tree? It seems odd because the weirwoods are sacred only to the northerners and wildlings beyond the Wall. She does not come across as a spiritual character at all. Perhaps she wanted to tap into the magic of those trees for selfish reasons or she just wanted a pretty garden. It seems very ominous and unexplained. The High Hall at the Eyrie castle has a throne made of weirwood and the dreaded Moon Door is made out of weirwood too. It isn't certain if the old gods and greenseers are able to use furnished weirwoods to have visions.
