The Vampire Lovers is a 1970 Hammer horror film. It stars Peter Cushing, Ingrid Pitt and Kate O'Mara. This is a film that's set in the 19th Century and the first of a trilogy of the Karnstein series. Loosely based on the novella Carmilla by Sheridan le Fanu.
The main character is a vampiress called Carmilla who can befriend the young women that she loves and also views as her prey. Carmilla is one of the remaining undead vampires from the Karnstein family. Many have died and she isn't a typical vampire. She can walk in daytime although prefers shade. She turns into a cat instead of a bat. Yet she hates garlic and crosses.
The film is bloody and sensual.
As I love classic horror, especially by Hammer I rate this a 9/10.
One minor snag: it just wasn't on long enough.
